SKU Consultancy & Training’s main trainer is Simon Unsworth. Simon has worked successfully within the fields of social care, health and education for over seventeen years. He has been a support worker for carers of people with long term mental health issues, a development worker in the voluntary sector, has worked for two local authorities at a strategic policy level and has most recently been Carers UK’s
Social Care Trainer, a role he held until April 2012. He has a wide range of experience delivering training to health, social care and third sector staff of all levels, has helped to develop and run successful services and has written key strategic documents. He has particular expertise in and knowledge of a range of areas: community care legislation, carers’ issues and rights, the assessment process, family support, disability equality, social work good practice, volunteer support and management, assertiveness, confidence-building, public speaking and presentations and speech writing. he set up and ran the Community Care Award shortlisted Staff Carers’ Group at Lancashire County Council, was the chair of Lonsdale District Carers (a voluntary sector organisation providing support to carers across Lancaster and Morecambe) and has been on the committees of the Lune Park Children’s Centre and Warrington Rape Crisis.
In addition to his work within health and social care, Simon is an extremely well regarded, award-nominated author who regularly gives readings of his work.
